History of the Tennis Centre

The first reports in the periodical press about tennis courts and the game of tennis in the Lielupe area date back to 1932. In the post-war period, a summer courts house, a judges' pavilion and the central court with small stands were built. In 1983, in preparation for the European Amateur Tennis Championship, the base was reconstructed, and in 1989 the indoor tennis hall was put into operation and the State Lielupe Tennis Centre was established, which soon became the most prestigious tennis base not only in Latvia, but also throughout the Soviet Union. Many international tournaments, European championships, the Goodwill Games, Davis Cup ties and tournaments featuring world-class tennis players have taken place at this base.

By the decision of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia of November 3, 1992, the Lielupe Tennis Centre was granted the status of a National sports base. In 2021, the Lielupe Tennis Centre was added to LLC "National Sports Centre of Latvia".
